Friends Home Board of Managers

The Friends Home Board of Managers sent the following letter to the Home’s community last December to tell about its current status and future hopes. Since the letter couldn’t be sent to all the members and attenders of Salem Quarterly Meeting, it’s reprinted here for your information. — Ed.

Dear Friends of Friends Home:

The holidays are a time for families and friends to share their stories from the passing year as well as their hopes for the year ahead. On behalf of Friends Home at Woodstown, it is our privilege to share Friends Home’s story—our accomplishments and our plans.

Friends Home’s Mission is to provide for the shelter, care and well-being of our residents in a homelike atmosphere. The Home has an obligation to its residents to provide a high level of quality care and service at a reasonable cost. In light of our Mission, in 1997 the Board of Managers and the staff of Friends Home developed a five-year strategic plan to prepare us for the opportunities and challenges that the changing healthcare environment presents to the long-term care industry.

We are happy to report that a number of our tasks are completed and we are on schedule to meet our goals. We continue to improve our technology. We developed a master site plan and we are finalizing our plans for our expansion and renovations. Reviews of our Board governance, administrative and financial management systems resulted in improvements to enhance their respective functions and position us for the future.

Our strategic planning process convinced the Board and administration that in order to meet our mission to our residents—to provide a high level of quality care and service at a reasonable cost—the time has come to establish a fundraising program for Friends Home.

We are pleased to welcome Mary Ellen Brooks as our Director of our new Development office, to manage our friend-raising and fundraising activities. In 2001, Friends Home will begin an Annual Gift Campaign to offset operational expenses and continue to keep our residents’ fees at affordable levels. Our new quarterly newsletter will be published in early 2001; and we’ll invite some of you to participate in a fundraising planning survey. Please feel free to contact us with your questions.

Friends Home is blessed with a large circle of family and friends that includes: residents; residents’ families and friends; Board, Committee and Auxiliary members; volunteers, staff, and healthcare workers; vendors and service providers; and members of the Religious Society of Friends.

On behalf of Friends Home, we wish each of you, our family and our friends, the joys and blessings of the holiday season.

With warm regards,
