A Mission Statement for Peace

Woodbury MM

artwork by Narcissa Voluntad WeatherbeeThe mission of the Peace & Social Concerns Committee of Woodbury Monthly Meeting is to act in the Light as children of God. Friends’ testimonies of Peace, Simplicity, Integrity, Community, Equality guide and inspire how we are to live in the world in the areas of Peace, social justice, the relationship of the individual to the state, criminal justice, equality, and stewardship. We recognize the interrelated nature of these areas of concern, yet understand as well their unique features as outlined in Faith & Practice, 1997. For clarity in faith and action, we unite with Woodbury Monthly Meeting; Salem Quarterly Meeting; Philadelphia Yearly Meeting; Quaker organizations such as American Friends Service Committee, Friends Committee on National Legislation, and Right Sharing of World Resources; as well as non-Quaker organizations. We hope and seek to build a world reflecting divine will and thereby help to bring about the Peaceable Kingdom on earth.

Composed and adopted by Woodbury Meeting’s Peace & Social Concerns Committee — June 19, 1999.
