FALL 2001
Mary Mills
Woodstown MMAfter almost a year in the planning, the Woodstown Peace Center will soon be a reality. The library of the Woodstown Friends Meetinghouse will be one location of the Salem County Peace Center. The other will be the library of Salem County Community College. The following goals have been set for the Woodstown Peace Center: work towards the reduction of bias, bigotry, discrimination, and intolerance; provide training programs for teachers and the community; house resources for review and loan to area schools and the community; research community interests and needs; provide coordination of organizations that are involved in fostering the peace concept; and provide a neutral location for conflict resolution.
This summer, Woodstown Monthly Meeting is reorganizing space within the meetinghouse. Both now and in the future, the meeting would be most appreciative of any assistance that could be provided in terms of financial aid and volunteer help with moving books and rearranging office furniture. We will also be assembling and cataloging our resources, which will provide information on topics such as multiculturalism, religious diversity, the dangers of anti-Semitism, and dealing with violence in the schools.
Speakers are also planned as an integral part of the Woodstown Peace Center. We hope to have Zalphia Wilson-Hill begin our sessions this fall. In the tradition of Rachael Davis Dubois, we intend to form conversation circles that will build bridges and establish common ground.
Finally, a hearty welcome is extended to every one from Salem Quarterly Meeting!
