Salem Quarter Worship & Ministry Committee Report

Sixth Month 10th, 2001

The Salem Quarter Worship & Ministry committee met on Sixth month 8th, 2001, at the home of Gloria and Bob Horvay with ten Friends attending from five monthly meetings. We held in the Light one among us who was grieving a recent loss. We heard the concern from another of feeling as though he were a container for more than he himself can hold. We honored his need for a committee which would support his obedience to ministry and also act as clearness and oversight when needed.

The clerk presented a concern from Friends Home at Woodstown regarding the need among its residents for spiritual nurture and friendship that would come from Friends in the wider Quaker community. After a discussion for the purpose of clarification and a viewing of the video Being With Friends, the committee then entered into a discernment process which included worship, reflection on queries, and worship sharing. Several of those present felt led to become involved with Friends Home residents who are in need of nurture. It was the sense of this committee that there are undoubtedly many others in the Quarter who would also be led in this direction.

Thus the committee brings forth to Salem Quarterly Meeting for Worship for Business the following minute:

It was minuted on Sixth month 8th, 2001, that the Worship & Ministry Committee of Salem Quarterly Meeting feels called to respond to the expressed need of Friends Home at Woodstown for spiritual nurture and friendly caring for its residents, particularly those in the Health Care Unit. Several members of the Worship & Ministry Committee found themselves led to be a part of a volunteer structure that would provide such friendship and nurture. The committee feels that there are others within the Quarter who would also be led to participate. We ask that Salem Quarterly Meeting come under the weight of this concern in the spirit of trying what love can do.

This committee meets next on Ninth month 7th, 2001, and reminds Friends that this meeting is open to all interested members of Salem Quarter.

Respectfully submitted,
Mary Waddington, Clerk
