SPRING
2002 December 9, 2001
he Trustees would like to report on two steps that have been taken representing progress in regard to the properties of the Alloway Creek Meeting. First, the problem of the posthole beetle has been addressed. The meetinghouse has been treated for posthole beetle and a termite prevention program has been installed. We may say with rather good accuracy that the building is free of these harmful critters. The cost for this is about $1,500. Now that this step has been taken, we will proceed with the repair to the building, employing the services of a craftsman who specializes in restoring historical buildings.
Two work days have been scheduled for some of the students at the Friends School at Mullica hill to spend half a day clearing the original cemetery along the creek belonging to the Alloways Creek Meeting. This was planned in conjunction with Borough Council representatives and citizens of the community of Hancocks Bridge. In addition to working on the properety, the day envisions building an educational and social connection between the citizens of the community and the school. An historic tour of the meetinghouse is to be included in the events of the day for the students of the Friends School. Two dates have been selected, but unfortunately they both had to be cancelled due to circumstances at the school. A future date will be planned after the holidays.
It has been a remarkable year, especially in regard to donations, both monetary and in personal labor, We wish to thank all of those who have contributed so generously and wish to thank those who hold our Quarterly Meeting properties in The Light.
Respectfully submitted,
George A. Crispin
