The program: “The miracle of leaven is that it only takes a very small amount to permeate and vivify the whole loaf,” write our facilitators. “It is like the tiny seed that sprouts and grows into a beautiful and productive plant, or the 'still small voice,' which although it is faint and sometimes hard to hear, when listened to and obeyed transforms our whole life.

“At the Retreat, we’ll explore where the leaven is in our own lives. What is this miracle that God gives? How can our meetings foster conditions that allow the leaven to bring about the reign of God, as Jesus described?

“There will be time for Bible study, individual reflection, sharing in small groups and in the large group. There will be activities for children and adults, separately and together. And of course we will bake bread!

“In preparation for our time together,” they conclude, “please pray that the miracle of leaven will be present in all of us.”

Our facilitators: Michael Wajda and Alison Levie are members of Goshen MM, West Chester, Pa. Michael grew up in Bridgeton and became a Quaker at Greenwich MM. In 1973 he became Salem Quarter’s first Coordinator. Currently he is Associate Secretary for Development and Interpretation at Friends General Conference, and is past clerk of PYM’s Meeting on Worship & Ministry.

Alison, his wife, grew up in Westbury MM in New York Yearly Meeting. For several years she was Director of the Resource Department at The Other Side magazine. Recently she completed her teaching certification in elementary education.

Individually and together, Alison and Michael have led numerous workshops and programs both within and outside Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, including the PYM Quaker Studies Program and travelling in the ministry for FGC.

And you ... We hope you’ll come for the full Retreat. But if you can’t, the Saturday program is self-contained; you don’t need the Friday or Sunday material to participate fully. If you have questions, call the Coordinator at (856) 769-0066 or download the registration form.
