FALL 2003Sondra Ball
Mickleton MM
She liked to spend her days
working in the garden,
feeding the birds,
building bird houses,
and laughing. She was complex enough to perfect the simple things:
sweet potatoes with marshmallows,
lemon butter,
apple butter,
ham sandwiches;and simple enough to perfect the complex things:
gathering groups to carol every Christmas Eve,
telling stories of past people and past events,
playing miniature golf with a child,
managing meeting picnics at the beach. She knew every bird and every seashell on that beach:
where it came from,
how it got there,
what it did,
where it was going. What is she doing in heaven now?
Does she stand,
spade in hand,
talking to a newly resurrected seagull?RETURN TO TABLE OF CONTENTS
