WINTER 2003
Mary Ellen Brooks
Director of Institutional Advancement
he Friends Home Board of Managers is pleased to announce that construction of our exciting new expansion project will begin the week of November 3, 2003. Formal groundbreaking will be held on Friday, November 21, 2003, at 1:30 in the afternoon. All are welcome to attend.
For those of you who may not know it already, Friends Home will become a Continuing Care Retirement Community with the construction of The Village cottages and apartments for independent living and the addition of a brand-new assisted living wing with a dedicated Alzheimers and related dementia disorders floor.
The Village at Friends Home at Woodstown will offer our regions seniors a wider choice of retirement options. These new options are important to the members of the Salem Quarter Meetings for many reasons, especially as the newest reincarnation of our dearly loved Friends Boarding Home. The Board of Managers is dedicated to honoring our legacy of providing the necessary resources to give our regions seniors options when they make decisions about their future and where they will live.
At present, Friends Home offers skilled and long-term nursing care, residential care, and affordable independent living apartments. This will not change. These resources will remain an affordable choice outside of the Continuing Care Retirement Community contract. Our expansion will enlarge the campus and broaden the levels of service and care offered with:
- New one bedroom apartments with kitchens in an elevator building, connected to the community center.
- Spacious single-story cottages with private entrances, garages, washers and dryers, and full kitchens.
- Renovated nursing care accommodations, including Medicaid beds.
- Brand new commons area with new kitchen and dining spaces.
- New assisted living and dementia care suites.
The Village at Friends Home will be the only retirement community of its type in South Jersey. Rather than lose our seniors to other parts of the country, seniors will now have the option to remain near where they have always lived, in familiar surroundings, close to family and friends. Now they will have peace of mind knowing that their retirement choice is backed by 106 years of Quaker caring.
