SUMMER 2004March 12, 2004
alem Quarter Worship & Ministry Committee met on March 12th at the home of Gloria and Bob Horvay, convening in worship at 7:30 pm. People were present from Mickleton, Mullica Hill and Woodbury Monthly Meetings, as well as the Quarter Coordinator.
Reports from monthly meetings
Mullica Hill Meeting held a workshop on Using the Light in January with seven or eight in attendance. Theyve decided to repeat the workshop in April. Afterwards, they may open it to the Quarter
Mickleton Meeting is still experiencing some growing pains, in the welcome challenge of adjusting once again to having small children in meeting.
Woodbury Meeting recently held a retreat at Pendle Hill on the topic of Finding the Light in Other People.
Spiritual Gifts Project
A planning group met with Thomas Swain and Margery Mears Larrabee in February to consider basic aims of the project, which may involve an initial workshop and several weekly discussions. Among the questions yet to be decided is whether the project should focus on the needs of nominating committees or more general concerns. The group will meet again on March 30th. Interested Friends are welcome to attend, with a commitment to the full planning process, which may go on for several sessions. To participate, please contact Phil Anthony or Sondra Ball.
Extended Worship
Seaville Meeting will host a session of open worship on Saturday, April 3rd. The meetinghouse will be available from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm, and Friends can attend for the entire period, or arrive and leave as best suits them. Seaville has generously offered to provide donuts in the morning and a simple lunch of soup and bread.
Clearness Committee
The clearness committee that was requested at our September eeting convened on December 16th. We met with Friends from Woodbury and Princeton Monthly Meetings who have a concern for spiritual healing. The clearness session was thorough and covered, and we supported their application to Standing Committee on Worship and Care. At its February meeting, Standing Committee agreed to let these Friends proceed with seeking like-minded Friends during Annual Sessions and through the year, with the intent of forming a project group. The members of the clearness committee agreed to continue as advisors and support.
Welcoming Transformation
After discussion of business, we gave the balance of our session over to discussion of what it means to be spiritually transformed, as an individual and as a meeting. The discussion was patterned on a workshop planned by Yearly Meeting Worship and Ministry for Thursday morning during Annual Sessions.
We concluded at about 9:30, intending to meet again on June 11, the Friday before Quarterly Meeting. We welcome Friends from all meetings of Salem Quarter.
For the Committee,
Mario Cavallini, ClerkRETURN TO TABLE OF CONTENTS
