FALL 2004When one tugs at a single thing in nature,
he finds it attached to the rest of the world.

he Salem Quarter Steering Committee has been very busy since last Quarterly Meeting. The possibility of a budget shortfall that was discussed in March and the need to resolve it by today led to the writing of a letter requesting assistance from the monthly meetings. The response from the Quarter was overwhelming, and with that additional support, the Finance Committee has been able to prepare a balanced budget.
There was a coordinator evaluation committee formed, which developed a method for evaluating the coordinator. This was a three-part process: monthly meeting input, coordinators self-evaluation, and a coordinators evaluation of the Steering Committee. The committee then distributed questions to the monthly meetings requesting feedback on the work of the coordinator. The responses from the meetings were positive, and the Steering Committee would like to recommend that the coordinator receive the full three per cent (3%) salary increase for the next fiscal year, which was approved in last years budget.
Comments received from the monthly meetings as well as from the coordinator himself about the coordinator, the coordinator program, and the Steering Committee will be used to prepare a set of goals for the coordinator for next year. A revised job description is also being discussed.
As clerk of the Steering Committee, I would like to thank the Quarter Finance Committee for their work in preparing the budget. I would like recognize the Evaluation Committee for the time and effort they have contributed on behalf of the Quarter. I would also like to offer witness to the care and dedication displayed by the clerk of Salem Quarter, whose modest style and quiet demeanor belie his inner strength.
In peace,
Frank Lenik, clerkRETURN TO TABLE OF CONTENTS
