WINTER 2004
chool started smoothly on September 9.
Some September highlights:
Middle school students are planning their September camping overnights.
Fourth graders, as part of their study of South Jersey history and Quakers, will sail on the A. J. Meerwald and learn about watersheds in September.
Kindergarteners will once again lead the school in the study of monarch butterflies, their developmental stages, food sources, migration pathways, and rain forest habitat. They study the butterflies, integrate the butterfly theme into the years studies, present to other classes. This spring, they will once again march through Mullica Hill, dressed as adult monarch butterflies.
Administration Changes:
Our Lower School principal, Mary Schilling, resigned at the end of last year. We all are grateful to Teacher Mary for her focus on school curriculum and teacher technical training.
The school is working with a different model for administration in the lower school as two very talented teachers, Teacher Dawn Boughal of Woodstown Friends Meeting and Teacher Patti Sanderson, serve as coordinators.
The teachers are involved in committees to address a number of issues from social interactions, administrative issues, library, computers/technology, teaching, etc.
Fund-raisers:
On-going fund raiser for the Middle School: The Sneaker Drive for Africa is coordinated with the Rotary Club of Gibbstown /Paulsboro. Bring sneakers, cleaned, washed and tied together by Friday, September 24th. Visitors should drop the sneakers off in the box in the Noel-Baker Building after checking in at the main office.
Annual Giving fund raising begins in October. Pledges are being accepted at this time from the Board of Trustees or anyone else who wishes to do so.
Parent Association activities for parents or community include the Fall Arts and Jazz Festival on October 21 from 10 to 4. Other activities include Parent Association Math Night, Parent Association Square Dance, and plans for movie night for the school community.
The Board and administration are busy with updating marketing and development programs. Over the summer the Board worked on policies which incorporate Quaker values, such as interpersonal respect.
