SPRING 2005
ony Prete has offered Bible study in a variety of venues: Pendle Hill, Friends General Conference, and many monthly meetings. Now Salem Quarter presents a six-week introductory course to the Bible featuring Tonys teaching.
The purpose of this course, he writes, is to provide a basic interpretive tool that will allow us to understand what is at the core of the Judeo-Christian tradition as expressed in the Bible, and to use that understanding as a lens through which to view how this core conviction is expanded, interpreted, and passed along. In the process, we will look at the major clusters that form the Bible: the Torah, the Prophets, and the Writings in the Old Testament, and the letters and gospels in the New Testament.
The series will begin on Sunday, 17 April, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Woodstowns meetinghouse. Sessions will be held approximately every other week through Sunday, 19 June; efforts will be made to avoid conflicts for those participating. Cost is $20 for the course, including all handouts and materials. It is expected that child care will be offered.
The course will draw on Tonys acknowledged scholarship, but its not intended for scholars. An awareness of the God who is faithfully and dynamically with usEmmanu-elis the courses ultimate goal, he says.
To register, send a check for $20 per participant made out to Salem Quarterly Meeting to the Coordinator, PO Box 55, Woodstown, N.J. 08098. Please include your name(s), address, telephone number, and e-mail address. Questions? Call (856)769-0066.
