Tri-Quarter Gathering Planning Committee

Preliminary Follow-Up Report for 2004
December 1, 2004

Dear Friends in Burlington, Haddonfield, and Salem Quarters,

The Tri-Quarter Gathering Planning Committee wishes to thank you formally for your assistance over many years, especially for the financial contribution of $500.00 from each Quarter for this past year. The money donated annually by Friends in Burlington, Haddonfield, and Salem Quarters enables reasonable fees to be charged for this special annual Quaker gathering at Camp Ockanickon and furnishes scholarships for Friends and their families. Our eventual financial report will show that our revenues have diminished somewhat; without your support we would have to raise fees by 33%.

The Tri-Quarter Planning Committee would like to report that the October 2004 Gathering was, like prior years’ gatherings, very successful. The nearly 100 participants whose ages ranged from 4 weeks old to elderly adults shared that the gathering was extremely uplifting and the annual positive experience provides inspiration and focus to carry them through life’s challenges for the coming year.

The meaning of Tri-Quarter is best conveyed by the words and experiences of Friends. One teen who responded to her first Gathering last year, “I so enjoyed my first wonderful experience at Tri-Quarter!” enlisted her father to make an eleven-hour drive to pick her up from college in North Carolina so they could participate again this year! Two long-time Tri-Quarter teens now attending Rowan University led “an awesome workshop where teens and adults really talked to one another!” Another teen who attended Tri-Quarter with his mother for their first time expressed his positive introduction to Quakerism: “I was quite surprised to find Quakers and Tri-Quarter to be really interesting and meaningful and fun—I really liked how accepted all people were even when they were different!”

Please share with Friends in your quarter that organization will soon start for next fall’s Gathering scheduled for the weekend of September 30, 2005. Be sure to mark your calendars for this special Quaker retreat and publicize the wonderful weekend experience with Friends in your monthly meetings. The popular activities which will be included again in Tri-Quarter include intergenerational games, hay rides, ice cream social, guided star gazing, square dance with live band, ropes challenge course, nature walks, time for meditation and socializing, and of course the excellent food, wonderful workshops, PYM Library, and profound worship!

Friends willing to assist the Tri-Quarter Planning Committee, or who have specific ideas for a theme, workshops or activities, should contact Cindy Cox Crispin, Registrar, at (856) 478-4093, or any other member of the Planning Committee.

Sincerely,

Fred Millner, Clerk
Chris Darlington, Treasurer
Cindy Cox Crispin, Registrar
