Friends School Report

Current fund-raisers:

These include the AFSC-sponsored Penny Drive for Tsunami Victims. This is being coordinated at FSMH by 2nd Graders and 7th graders. The 2nd graders will get some counting experience, and 7th graders will help them to roll the pennies. If interested, you may bring rolled or unrolled pennies to the front desk at MHFS or send them to school with a MHFS student.

Lower & Middle School:

The Middle School Science Fair event was held on March 11, 2005. The event started in the meetinghouse, where students and teachers explained the several month long process of preparing. The student’s display boards were exhibited in the gym.

The Middle School Play “Wonderland” will be held on April 7, at Appel Farm. T. Chris Ritter is the lead teacher on the class play.

Fourth Graders will be visiting the Seabrook Cultural Center as part of their on-going study of Quakers in South Jersey. They will interview Japanese-Americans who lived in the internment camps.

Math Night, a program to orient parents to the Everyday Math program, was a great success and it was noted that a lot of dads who are not able to participate in the day-to-day activities attended Math Night with their students.

Friends Fine and Performing Community Arts (FFPCA) School:

Today, you heard the orchestra of the FFPCA School. The FFPCA is located in the basement of the Hanshi Building. The program provides music and arts instruction to children from the community as well as from the FSMH, with more than half the participants from the extended community and a large number of home-school students participating. The most popular program is the Music Together program for toddlers and pre-schoolers.

The FFPCA School is hosting the Spring String Fling on April 20, 2005, providing strings students from all levels and opportunity to attend a full day of workshops, with an end of day performance. You may contact T. Susan Greenspan at FSMH for more information.

Book Fair:

The Scholastic Book Fair starts on Monday March 14th from 2:30 pm through 7:30 pm. From May 15-18 the event will be held from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, purchases benefiting the Friends School Library.

Board activities:

The Auction Committee is hard at work planning for the event called “Growing Into Goodness,” on April 22, 2005 at Adelphia in Deptford. The event will sponsor the continued growth and vitality of the education program at FSMH. Tickets can be purchased from T. Bonnie at MHFS.

At the Annual Board Appreciation Dinner, the FSMH Board honored three of the members who have recently rotated off. The Kramme Award was presented to Mike Ayars of Woodstown Monthly Meeting and Barbara Thomas and the Founders Award was presented to former Board Clerk Keith Ragone, of Woodstown Monthly Meeting.
