SPRING 2006
The Psalms
ony Prete returns to Salem Quarter this spring for six sessions exploring the Psalms. Each class will focus on an individual psalm. He will open for us the rich meaning of the original Hebrew words, and the ways the structure of the poetry intensifies the message of these ancient Jewish hymns. We will look at psalms that reflect our deep human feelings of contentment, trouble, or growthour convictions as well as our confusion. We will see what the Psalms can tell us about making an awareness of God an integral part of our lives.
An experienced facilitator, Tony has led classes, workshops, and retreats at Pendle Hill, Friends General Conference, and many monthly meetings in PYM. He has been a plenary speaker for the FGC Gathering and has published articles on Bible topics in Friends Journal and elsewhere. He is member of Central Philadelphia Monthly Meeting.
The sessions will be held 3:005:00 pm at Woodstown (N.J.) Monthly Meeting on approximately alternate Sundays: 9 April, 30 April, 14 May, 28 May, 4 June and 18 June. The meetinghouse is about 45 minutes from Center City, Philadelphia, and convenient to both the Delaware Memorial and Commodore Barry Bridges.
Cost for the six sessions, including all materials, is $30 per person. For those who'd like to try it out or who know they can't attend all six classes, there's a single-class fee of $7.50 per session. All are welcome!
