FALL 2006On May 8 five parents from the Quarter met at Woodstown Meetinghouse to discuss plans for the gathering of our youth. At the first meeting, the committee came up with four service projects that are simple and do-able; identified the appropriate age groups (5 through 18); picked dates and identified possible locations for the project. A to-do list was prepared and we shared the activities. First we needed a mailing list, then approval to use the meeting houses for the projects, a flyer to inform the families, and the confirmation from our service project recipients that they would like to receive our projects! Parents who attended or are involved in the service projects are Deb Seabrook, Gary Holmes, and Patti Burns of Woodstown MM; Rita Williams of Mickelton MM; and Cathy Parrish of Greenwich MM.
So far we have a draft preliminary list of families with names and ages of children and contact information. We still need input from Seaville MM and Mullica Hill MM. Woodbury, Salem, Mickelton, Greenwich and Woodstown MM are reviewing the list for accuracy. Thank you to all who have been so helpful in preparing the list.
We have reached out to clerks and monthly meeting representatives at Salem, Mickelton and Woodstown to ask to use their meeting houses for various activities. Some activities require a stove, others large outdoor areas. Therefore, the selection of meeting houses was somewhat facilities-dependent. Our goal is to have a gathering at each of the meeting houses in the Quarter by the end of 2008!
To date we have four activities scheduled for the coming year: Meet and greet-August 4, 2006, at Woodstown Meetinghouse, with a potluck, peace vigil, games, and donation to a soup kitchen; bake biscuits for the dog pound at the Salem meetinghouse on November 3, 2006; make cards for the Friends Village residents on February 9, 2007; and make soup for a local soup kitchen at Woodstown on April 13, 2007. The meetings are to be scheduled from 6:00 to 9:00 pm on Friday evenings. A flyer is being prepared and we hope to send it out in June 2006.
We will also be using our flyers and mailing list to keep the Quarter families informed about other family and children-related activities, in particular the programs that Cindy Cox Crispin of Woodbury MM has been coordinating such as the planting and maintenance of intergenerational butterfly gardens at Woodstown Friends Village and Friends School Mullica Hill; Tri-Quarter Gathering; and Earth Day at Woodbury Friends.
