Friends School Report to Salem Quarterly Meeting

March 2007

Friends School Mullica Hill has just finished its second of three terms.

Admissions: Applications for admissions for the school year 2007-2008 are being received. If you know of a child who would benefit from a Friends School education or would like to know more the school, please contact Bonnie Shinkle Clark, admissions director, at (856) 478-2908. Financial aid is available on an as-needed basis.

The Middle School Science Fair is scheduled for March 8. The exhibits, accompanied by the young scientists who have prepared oral presentations describing their experiments, are on display in the gymnasium from 9 am to 12 noon, and again at 6:30 pm.

Book Fair is scheduled for 19-23 March. Hours vary; please call the school for more information.

The Middle School will perform Aladdin on Thursday, 29 March, at 10:00 am and 7:00 pm, at Appel Farm in Upper Pittsgrove, Salem County.

The Annual Spring Auction and Gala Dinner is scheduled for the evening of 20 April at Luciens in Berlin, NJ. The theme of the First Grade Quilt is "Let's Go Fly a Kite!" Ads for the auction catalogue and donations to the auction are due on 14 March, in order to be included in the ad book. Delivery can be at a later date. For details contact Brenda Donnelly at Friends School.

Service Projects: Two Middle School students have initiated a project to collect 100 new or gently used duffle bags and baby diaper bags for foster children who are in the DYFS program in Sewell and West Deptford, NJ. The bags can be dropped off at Friends School.

The Middle School Service Club is collecting gently used and new sneakers and closed-toe shoes for students at throughout the The Compass School, a school for orphans in a mountainous area in Kenya. The shoes will be distributed through the program World Vision.

Friends School honored Martin Luther King Day with its first "Voluntary Day of Service." Although the school was closed, more than 40 parents, students, trustees and staff participated in the service project. The day began with Meeting for Worship and a bus trip to Friends Village. Participants read, made crafts, and shared conversation and stories with the residents.

Meeting for Worship on Thursdays: Friends School extends an invitation to all in Salem Quarter to attend our weekly meeting for worship. The lower school meets on Thursdays at 9:00 am, and the middle school on Thursdays at 10:30 am in the Mullica Hill meetinghouse.
