Friends Village at Woodstown

Tom Lyons
Chief Executive Officer

Friends Village at Woodstown logoThis year, 2007, marks a significant anniversary for Friends Village at Woodstown. Not only are we celebrating 110 years of service to the Salem Quarter, but 2007 also marks our second year as a full-service Continuing Care Retirement Community. Since 1897, Friends Village has embodied the reputation for providing exceptional health care coupled with quality care to older adults of moderate means. As a nonprofit, mission-driven organization, we continue to help seniors realize their full potential in a friendly, supportive community environment.

In 2005, we again found fundamentally the same spirit embodied in our first pioneers that helped form the first 108 years. Our newest pioneers have been building on our past, but have been contributing to the development of the evolving campus in not only its physical beauty but its emotional well-being. We still make and hold dear to our hearts the development of individual interests which strives to provide an environment for balanced living.

Ruth Hall Brooks, a resident of Friends Village and acting president of the North American Quaker Tapestry project since its inception in 1988, has been presenting the stories of the tapestries to residents and the general public this last spring.

The Salem County Art League's monthly meeting is open to the public. It is being held at the Friends Village Auditorium on the fourth Monday of the month. Everyone is welcome.

Be Our Guest is on the fourth Thursday of every month. This event is open to the general public. Lunch and educational programs and tours of the Village are offered.

On 24 May 2007, marketing held a full sit-down tea for their prospects and contacts. Sixty guests were entertained by Thea Feliciano, pianist, and Shelley Rodgers, violist/soloist.

Join our Alzheimer Caregivers support group, held the fourth Monday of the month at 7:00 pm in the Hancock Center. Call Patience Oakes at (856)769-1500 for information. And don't forget that she will also be presenting a program here on the subject at 1:30 pm on Saturday, 27 October. This follows her very successful presentation at Salem Quarterly Meeting last March, and all are welcome. To register for the program, call the Salem Quarter coordinator at (856)769-0066.

Friends Village Annual Golf Outing will be held on 26 September to benefit our Endowment and Benevolence Funds.

On 9 November, the Auxiliary will host the annual holiday Bazaar for the benefit of our residents.

To learn more about our Endowment and Benevolence Funds or our 6th Annual Golf Outing, please contact us at (856)769-1500 or visit us on the Web at http://www.friendsvillage.org/.
