Friends Village at Woodstown

Tom Smith
Director of Institutional Advancement

Friends Village at Woodstown logoIt began with a challenge. How can Salem Quarter better provide for its aging population? How can they effectively offer a caring, supportive, and nurturing environment for the aged?

This environment would have to include a safe, home-like setting, meals that were nutritionally balanced, and professional caretakers to oversee the living arrangements and healthcare needs of the residents. The facility would need to accommodate the residents’ limitations, provide recreational programs, and promote the highest level of independence possible … topped off with a massive amount of TLC.

This recipe, like one from your great-grandmother, has been passed down for over four generations. It has weathered many storms and embraced advances in both medicine and technology. Adjusting to the many changes in health care law and culture since our inception, Friends Village has completed several successful improvement projects that have accommodated the needs and wants of our residents while preserving our vitality. With the vision and guidance of both Salem Quarter and our Board of Trustees, the continuous dedication of our staff, and the eternal commitment of our volunteers, Friends Village has become the embodiment of superior senior health care in the region.

The recent addition of forty-five assisted living suites (twenty dedicated to dementia care) now provides seniors the prospect of specialized care in the event that their everyday needs were to increase. Sixty-seven independent living cottages and apartments afford residents the autonomy they had at home, while providing support and care with such services as on-site rehabilitation, 24-hour emergency monitoring service, a dining program, and dozens of social and physical activities.

In planning for our future, the Board of Trustees along with the management team and staff aim for another century of growth, the vitality of traditions, and the perpetual preservation of our mission. This year on November 15th, Friends Village will celebrate 110 years of quality Quaker care. Our original, iron-clad commitment to care for the aging in 1897 has not changed. It remains the center of the universe here at One Friends Drive.

We invite you to come see what 110 years looks like in the senior healthcare industry. Visit us on the web at www.friendsvillage.org, or call Jeni at 769-5035.
