SUMMER 2008Sondra Ball
clerk, Salem Quarterly MeetingThe Governance Project Group of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting has brought forth a list of recommendations for changing the way Interim Meeting and Yearly Meeting work. If adopted, these recommendations will ultimately affect all the relationships in PYM, from the monthly meetings to the quarterly meetings to the yearly meeting committees. They will also change the relationship of PYM to the world at large. That may seem like a big statement to make, but the proposals would change how PYM makes its decisions. And any change in decisionmaking processes always affects the whole picture of an organization.
Jada Jackson, clerk of Interim Meeting, has recommended that these ideas be seasoned by monthly and quarterly meetings. We will have a discussion about these proposals at the next Salem Quarterly Meeting. You can find these recommendations at pym.org. Please read these recommendations, think about them, pray about them, talk about them in your monthly meetings and among your friends, and come prepared to look at them at the June quarterly meeting. Our responses will be forwarded to the members of the Governance Project Group, and also to Jada Jackson; Thomas Swain, PYM clerk; and Arthur Larrabee, general secretary. Possibly they will also be forwarded to other quarters too, if quarterly meeting feels that is appropriate.
Thank you so very much for reading and considering the recommendations.
