SUMMER 2008Lester Heritage
Mickleton MMNow that Spring is finally here,
My thoughts go back to an earlier year.
On the farm at this time usually could be found
A few spears of asparagus piercing the ground. My Mother knew that asparagus soup I liked,
So all over the field she searched and hiked.
Up and down each row she looked and looked
To find enough asparagus that could be cooked.Soon the aroma of asparagus was filling the room,
I knew I would be getting my soup very soon.
I was sure by then that Spring was here,
It seemed to happen that way every year.So for old times sake the other day,
I had to do it, what can I say.
I bought some asparagus and the ingredient group,
And I celebrated Spring with some asparagus soup. This poem first appeared in the 1 April edition of the online poetry journal Autumn Leaves and is copyright © 2008 Lester Heritage
