Friends Village at Woodstown

Tom Smith
Director of Institutional Advancement

Friends Village at Woodstown logoThis summer has been a busy one here at Friends Village. In May, we kicked off a campaign to raise funds for a new grand piano for our residents. The goal was to raise $10,000 by June 30. We accomplished this goal with an overwhelming response from residents, staff, and friends. Many thanks to everyone who supported us in this campaign.

Saturday, June 7, we hosted the Friends Village Festival & Antique Car Show. This fun-filled family event featured over thirty antique cars, live entertainment from the Woodstown High School Jazz Band, carnival games, and so much more! We are very proud to announce that over 300 people attended this year’s event. On this same day, we held a special ceremony honoring all of the peace efforts made by the veterans of Friends Village. Over sixty residents received special state and congressional recognition certificates.

The Friends Village Dining Department headed up an Awareness Campaign for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. This four-month effort raised much needed awareness through special events like an “UnBeauty Pageant,” in which the residents voted for the best (worst) male participant dressed like a woman. There was also a special screening of the classic movie “Casablanca” for the residents, complete with a concession stand and an old-fashioned popcorn machine. These were just some of the highlights of the campaign that raised not only awareness, but also $1,200 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The Advancement Department recently began a partnership with the Mobil Retiree Volunteer Program. The plan promotes volunteerism among Mobil retirees and awards Friends Village with a $500 grant for every 40 hours that a retiree volunteers with us. Friends Village has been awarded a $4,000 Community Grant towards our Benevolence Fund from the Delaware River Bay Authority. The Salem Health and Wellness Foundation completed the final installment of our $20,801 grant to help fund the purchase of equipment for our Fitness Center.

The 7th Annual Golf Outing will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at the Westwood Golf Club in Woodbury, NJ. The round of golf will be followed by the Awards Dinner, silent auction, and raffle. All net proceeds will go towards our residents’ Benevolence Fund. This fund has been created to assist those residents with financial difficulty. For more information on the golf outing, please contact Tom Smith at (856) 769-1500.
