WINTER 2008September 14, 2008
We continue to provide a caring presence and assistance to Woodbury Meeting. It is still our view that their difficulties are not caused by a few individuals, but by a long history of contentiousness and partisanship. Woodbury's problems stem from defending positions and taking sides in business meeting instead of coming together with the expectation that together the meeting can come into a knowledge of Truth that transcends any one person's understanding.
Many people in the meeting have read the Pendle Hill pamphlet Beyond Consensus by Barry Morley about finding the sense of the meeting. The Care Committee has sponsored a gathering to discuss finding the sense of the meeting. That gathering was well attended by members and attenders of Woodbury Meeting.
We believe that as Friends begin to see the possibility of communal discernment they will choose that over the old way of argument and contention.
