WINTER 2008Business meeting: About 20 people attended the business meeting. Eight evaluations were received.
Three things are worthy of note:
- Friends were very impressed by Barry Sloanes clerking in Sondra Balls absence.
- Most of the people who were scheduled to give reports could not be present: Tom Etherington, Patti Burns, Mary Mills, Karen Paarz. Others substituted for them as best they could.
- Despite several possibly contentious action items (Child Safety Policy, Beatrice Vandegrift environmental scholarship contest), the meeting finished in record time: 1 hour 17 minutes.
The yes/no questions were all answered positively, except for the one about listening to the Spirit. As usual, that one gave some people difficulty. Some comments were:
- Not to great depth, but yes
- Unfortunately, the portion devoted to Woodbury MM, at times, approached the end [?] of spirituality, sometimes present at Woodbury. On the whole, however, it was a good airing
- Mostly
The preparation of Friends giving reports was commented on:
- Yes, even those folks not planning to give them. Exception was Mary Mills letter
- Mostly, particularly since most of us were pinch-hitting
Finally, there were these comments and suggestions:
- Barry Sloan [sic] did an admirable job
- Excellent job and no ideas for improvement other than a return to health for Sondra and Tom
- Woodbury Meeting needs continuing help
- Business-like, even Meeting for Business-like, is always appreciated
After the business meeting, several Friends spoke of Barry as a possibility for clerk of Salem Quarter when Sondras second term is up.
