SPRING 2009December 11, 2008
In the months since the Care Committee has attended Woodbury Monthly Meeting, we have noted the dissension within Meeting. However, the Care Committee is also aware of the many gifts found in Woodbury Monthly Meeting and wish to acknowledge these gifts.
There exists a real energy in Meeting. This may display itself in the many Outreach activities of Woodbury Monthly Meeting. Friday nights in the summer to view and discuss a movie with a potluck dinner, Earth Day and Thanksgiving Day celebrations, participation in civic affairs are just a few of these activities. As a result of these varied outreach activities, Woodbury Monthly Meeting attracts many new people to Quakerism.
First Day School reflects the meetings willingness to explore and learn. Books on different viewpoints concerning religion are read and discussed. The facilitator of First Day School changes regularly. This allows for the leadings of individuals to learn and be heard. The Care Committee has noted the strong sense of responsibility that members of Woodbury Monthly Meeting possess. These include attention to PYM activities, care of the physical property of Woodbury Monthly Meeting, environmental concerns, and childrens welfare.
Woodburys Meeting for Healing is an incredible spiritual experience. There are those of us in Salem Quarter that have been the recipients of these prayers and have survived major illness and surgeries.
While there remains a need for listening and conciliation, Woodbury has the necessary strengths to achieve that goal.
