SPRING 200914 Twelfth-month 2008
The Committee for Caring continues to be a presence at Woodbury Meeting's business meetings, which are the focus of Woodbury's difficulties.
Woodbury has appointed a nominating committee which will present a slate of officers for 2009 for approval of monthly meeting. This is a strong start to bringing the meeting into right order.
Woodbury has started having closed sessions as part of its regular business meeting. Only members of Woodbury Meeting may attend these closed sessions, and it is in the closed sessions that most decisions are made. The Committee for Caring is united in considering this a departure from usual Friends practices. Not all Woodbury members are in unity with continuing closed sessions as a routine practice, and there may be more consideration of the matter.
Committee for Caring is rebalancing its role. We have been considered by some people from Woodbury as police and may actually have acted that way from time to time. While we still have the responsibility to help heal the long-time hurts at Woodbury, we see our role as that of a catalyst, being a Friendly presence and offering advice and encouragement as way opens, but recognizing that Woodbury must do the work in its own way.
