Jesus in Shorts

walking along
      a highway
            a hitchhiker
                  without a name

shoulder-length hair
      dark, curly, clean
            gently caressed
                  by brief breezes

dark, gentle eyes
      looking ahead
            searching for what?
                  for you and me?

it's summertime
      walking along
            a highway
                  he feels the heat

less oppressive
      with khaki shorts
            than long trousers
                  or even blue jeans.
