FALL 200911 Ninth Month 2009
Salem Quarter Worship & Ministry Committee met on 9 March at the home of Gloria and Bob Horvay, convening in fellowship at about 7:30 pm. Individuals were present from Mickleton and Mullica Hill Monthly Meetings, as well as the quarter coordinator.
Perhaps in balance to our June meeting, which had a large attendance of Friends eager to build workshops, tonights was a smaller, quieter gathering. By 8:00 pm we settled in, and a deep worship ensued. From the stillness, it was evident that developing projects could await another time; we were moved to put aside current needs and issues, to ponder fundamentals. While most of the session was held in stillness, vocal ministry addressed the need for our meetings to be warm places of retreat and spiritual hospitality, where visitors and longtime Quakers alike can find company in their spiritual path: inspiration to seek, welcome to share what weve found, and nurture for what comes next.
We concluded in fellowship about 9:30. Coming out of worship, it was noted that Steering Committee wants to encourage intervisitation among the Meetings of Salem Quarter. We support this, and intend to explore it at our next meeting, to occur on 11 December 2009, the Friday evening before quarterly meeting, at a location to be determined, ideally in the area of Salem Monthly Meeting, where the next quarterly meeting will be held. We welcome participation from all monthly meetings of Salem Quarter.
For the Committee,
