SPRING 2010Salem Quarter Worship and Ministry Committee is sponsoring a day-long silent meditation retreat on Saturday, 5/1/2010 (NOTE: this is an update from the previous date of 4/17), co-led by Michael Gibson (Mullica Hill MM) and Nora Iwanaga (Woodbury MM). Both those experienced in meditation and contemplative practice and those new to these are welcome. Nora and Michael will periodically introduce a variety of practices, both Eastern and Western and both Buddhist and Christian, including basic meditation, walking meditation, metta meditation, centering prayer, and others. Opportunities will be provided for participants to practice these disciplines as they wish.
Lunch will be provided. Preparation, eating, and clean-up will be done in silence. The retreat will be held at the Mullica Hill meetinghouse, starting at 9:30 am and ending at 4:45 pm. Because instruction in different disciplines is provided throughout the day, and interruptions could be distracting to those in the workshop who are practicing them, participants are encouraged to attend the entire retreat. However, it would be appropriate to attend only half the dayif that is all your schedule permitsfrom 9:30 to 1:30, or from 12:30 to 4:45.
Registration materials will be provided in March at quarterly meeting, at your monthly meeting, and via email. The retreat co-leaders will need to know how much food to purchase and how best to structure and facilitate the day, so registering is important and very helpful. Cost will be a modest $6, which includes lunch and snacks. If you have any questions or want further information, you may e-mail nora.nj at verizon.net, or reach Michael at michaelg at fgcquaker.org.
