ony Prete and I first met about five years ago. A mutual friend was preparing a workshop for the FGC Gathering. She brought a group together to help her learn where it needed more work, how to smooth out the rough spots, and what she was doing right. As I listened to Tony, a member of Central Philadelphia MM, in the preparatory workshop and spoke with him afterward, I knew this was someone I needed to know.

Hes led workshops at the FGC Gathering and several years ago was the final plenary speaker there. I admire his scholarship and devotion to teaching, and am grateful for his friendship, more than ever.
This spring, Salem Quarter will have an opportunity to benefit from Tonys teaching. Hes agreed to lead a six-session Introduction to the Bible every other Sunday afternoon at Woodstown MM, starting in early April. Cost for the program, which is under the care of the quarter, will be only $20 per participant, including all handouts. See the article for details, and come join us.
Our thanks to Woodstown for hosting Tonys class. Other things upcoming at Woodstown MM include a prayer vigil for peace on Saturday, 19 March, the second anniversary of the start of the war in Iraq, and of course the Strawberry Festival (the date isnt confirmed yet, but itll probably be 4 June, the first Saturday of that month).
Woodbury MM continues its Friday evening programs, and expects to hold its annual Earth Day celebration, though the date hasnt been set. The extended worship at Seaville MM has been put off until the fall, but will have other eventsincluding an Easter celebrationon its calendar. The annual Pot Pie Dinner at Salem MM will be held on Saturday, 7 May (and volunteers will be welcomed).
The Little Red School House will be the scene of Mickleton MMs Passover seder on Sunday, 24 April; all are invited. Mullica Hill MM will hold Good Friday worship, which is expected to begin at 10:30 am on 25 March (call the coordinator to confirm). Though I dont know the date, Greenwich MM expects to host its annual art show.
And Philadelphia Yearly Meeting will hold its Annual Sessions at Arch Street, 31 March through 3 April. The theme this year is One in the Spirit, celebrating fifty years since the reunification of PYM.
Before these events, Salem Quarter will gather in session on Sunday, 13 March, at Woodstown MM. The table on this page has the schedule; the program will be provided by the Salem Quarter Gifts Working Group.
The group grew out of reminiscences of the gifts program of 1975, which touched members and meetings in Salem Quarter. The new group, under the Quarters care, still seeks to lift up our members individual gifts and talents. In the intervening time, though, its also been recognized that the meetings have a responsibility to affirm and nurture members gifts, and that individuals receive gifts for the benefit of the community.
A member of that gifts group from 30 years ago, Thomas Swain of Middletown MM, Concord Quarter, agreed to join the new one under the Quarters care. So did Margery Mears Larrabee of Mount Holly MM. Other members are associated with Salem Quarter meetings.
After a year of work, the Gifts Working Group feels ready to report on its work and to invite Salem Quarters monthly meetings to take part in its gifts workshops. Please come and hear what Margery and the other group members have to tell us, and consider whether your meeting would like to hold such a workshop next fall.
