Quarterly Meeting Minutes

11 Twelfth Month 2005

Salem Quarterly Meeting met 11 Twelfth Month 2005, at the Salem meetinghouse. During worship, Friends were invited to share joys, celebrations, and sorrows to be held in the Light. Clerk Sondra Ball (Mickleton) then convened the meeting.

The minutes of the last Quarterly meeting were approved as they appeared in the Salem Quarter News with the following addition: In Paragraph 5, line 2, Lori Talbot should be identified as from Greenwich Monthly Meeting.

There was no report from the Friends School at Mullica Hill. Bob Horvay (Mickleton) noted that he spoke with Drew Smith regarding the $100 worth of books that they are to select from the Quarter's FCG book sale account. It was further noted that we need to hold the school in the Light as they are facing some financially difficult times.

Mario Cavallini (Mickleton) presented the Worship & Ministry report. They met and out of worship discussed the topic of courage. Meeting accepted the report and thanked the committee for their efforts.

The Finance Committee report and the annual budget were presented by committee clerk Mike Ayars (Woodstown). He noted that Seaville is the fastest growing meeting, and that the monthly meetings that contribute more than their quota make up for those that are unable to meet their quota. The report was accepted with praise and thanks to the committee regarding the presentation of the report and its simplified, easy-to-understand format.

Salem Quarterly Meeting approved the annual budget as it was presented by the Finance Committee.

Tom Etherington (Mullica Hill) reported for the Steering Committee. He announced that Rabbi Marcia Prager will be presenting the program at March Quarterly Meeting in Woodstown. She will receive an honorarium, to be approved by Steering Committee, which will be donated to a nonprofit organization with which she is associated. Meeting accepted the report.

Mike Ayars (Woodstown) reported on the Friends Village. The main entrance is now open; the old entrance is now used as an ambulance entrance for the health care facility. The Christmas tree in the Fenwick's Cottage common area is decorated with handmade ornaments once fea-tured in the White House. Mike noted that the Friends Village has facilities available for meetings. Some of the Woodstown Monthly Meeting committees meet there, and others are welcomed. He also indicated that the staff is available for questions and assistance regarding available care of self and care for aging parents. Their expertise extends beyond questions abut the Village to include, for example, the new Medicare drug policy. Meeting accepted the report, grateful to hear of the all the positive growth.

The clerk read a letter from Ruth Hall Brooks (Salem). This contained information regarding two wedding chairs donated to the LAC meetinghouse from members of her family, and a request from the Friends of the Hancock House to obtain a key to the LAC meetinghouse. Ruth is willing to give her key to the organization. Meeting approved the following minute in response to the letter.

A letter from Ruth Hall Brooks (Salem) regarding a request for a key to the LAC meetinghouse from Doris L. Tice on behalf of the Friends of the Hancock House was referred to the Salem Quarterly Meeting Trustees for consideration and ac-tion. Quarterly Meeting approved the action of the Salem Quarterly Meeting Trustees as they see fit on this matter.

The coordinator, Phil Anthony, spoke about the Quarter mailing list revision. He stressed the need for the project to be completed in a timely fashion as well as its success being dependent upon the participation of all of the monthly meetings.

Some discussion was held regarding the Child Safety Policy, the Child Safety Committee, and the completion of the GuideOne questionnaire. The name of Bob Horvay (Mickleton) as a committee member was brought forth. Meeting approved the following minute of action.

Salem Quarterly Meeting appointed Bob Horvay (Mickleton) to serve on the Child Safety Committee. The committee will be considering the policy that was approved on 11 Ninth Month 2005 for revision as well as recommending answers to the GuideOne questionnaire. The Salem Quarterly Meeting Steering Committee is empowered to approve those answers as the deadline from GuideOne dictates.

There being no further business and after announcements of upcoming activities, meeting was closed with further worship. Out of the worship, Friends noted their appreciation to the clerk, assistant clerk, and all those who had a part in the planning and implementation of Quarterly Meeting.
