Salem Quarterly Meeting met 9/13/2009 at the lower meetinghouse in Greenwich. Out of worship, clerk Sondra Ball (Mickleton) convened the meeting. There was a Friendly presence of twenty for business.

Minutes of the last quarterly meeting on 6/14/2009 were approved as they appeared in Salem Quarter News.

Julia Zinader (Mickleton) presented the report on the Tri-Quarter Gathering as submitted by Marsha Gaspar (Woodbury). The report noted that most of misplaced 2008 monies have been replaced and deposited. The deposit for next year has been paid. Promotional efforts for this year’s event are under way via cards, forms, and e-mails. They anticipate 80 participants. The report was accepted with thanks and the following minute was approved:

Salem Quarterly Meeting approved a $500 donation to the Tri-Quarter Gathering as requested by the Tri-Quarter Planning Committee. The committee is encouraged to pursue an audit as a normal course of events when a new treasurer is named.

The Finance Committee report was presented by its clerk, Mike Ayars (Woodstown). It was accepted as presented.

Dana Houghton (Woodstown) offered an update on the status of the Iraqi family that Woodstown Monthly Meeting is bringing to the U.S. The family has been cleared by the State Department and they are expected to arrive within the next few weeks.

A report was offered by Mario Cavallini (Mickleton) from the Worship & Ministry Committee. It highlighted the deep and inspiring worship shared at the last meeting and was accepted as presented.

There was no formal report from the Trustees. It was noted that they are active, and concerns should be shared with Trustees’ clerk, Gary Holmes (Woodstown).

As committee clerk, Tom Etherington (Mullica Hill) presented a report from the Steering Committee. The report highlighted the Salem Quarter picnic and the scheduled event at the next quarterly meeting in December. The report was accepted as presented.

On behalf of the Committee of Caring, Julia Zinader (Mickleton) shared that the committee has not been able to attend Woosbury MM recently due to personal schedule conflicts. She restated their request for direction from Salem Quarterly Meeting regarding their continued purpose and function.

The clerk reminded Friends of the need to speak from the heart with Spirit-led words and attention to the time utilized. Following a brief discussion, Friends approved the following minute:

Salem Quarterly Meeting approves maintaining the existence and the path of the Committee for Caring in the care of Woodbury Monthly Meeting. The quarter continues to not recognize decisions made by Woodbury in closed business meetings.

The coordinator made announcements regarding upcoming events and the programs for December quarterly meeting in Salem. Meeting was closed with worship.
